Zuhair Murad. Lebanese Couture and the Art of Embellishment.
Zuhair Murad founded his eponymous fashion house in Beirut, Lebanon in 1997, bringing to life a passion for fashion that began when he first sketched dresses at the age of ten. After studying at La Chambre Syndicale de la Couture Parisienne in Paris, he returned to his homeland and built a couture atelier that would go on to define modern luxury dressing. His international debut came at Paris Haute Couture Week in 2001, and the brand today operates ateliers and showrooms in Beirut, Paris, Kuwait, and London, distributing through more than 150 multi-brand retailers worldwide.
The bridal collection, launched in 2011, is a direct extension of the house's couture philosophy: every gown is treated as a singular work of art. Complex designs demand upwards of 1,000 hours of work, carried out by specialist artisans in embroidery, beading, and tailoring. Fabrics include Chantilly lace, silk tulle, organza, and silk georgette, adorned with hand-stitched floral motifs, Baroque-inspired arabesques, and delicate lace appliques. Among the most celebrated commissions of the house is the custom gown created for Sofia Vergara in 2015, requiring 1,657 hours of atelier work.
Zuhair Murad at Bloomfeld
Bloomfeld carries the Zuhair Murad bridal collection at our Antwerp boutique. Brides who appreciate extraordinary handcraft and dramatic, feminine silhouettes find their ideal gown here.
Zuhair Murad gowns require significant lead time due to the intensity of atelier work involved. We recommend beginning the process at least nine months before your wedding date to allow for production and fittings.
Frequently asked questions about Zuhair Murad
Zuhair Murad is a Lebanese couturier who founded his house in Beirut in 1997. The brand has ateliers and showrooms in Beirut, Paris, Kuwait, and London. Gowns are produced by specialist artisans with expertise in embroidery, beading, and tailoring.
The amount of atelier work varies depending on the design. Simpler gowns require a minimum of 300 hours. Heavily embellished designs can demand upwards of 1,000 hours of handcraft across embroidery, beading, tailoring, and pattern-making. The custom gown created for Sofia Vergara in 2015 required 1,657 hours.
The house works primarily with Chantilly lace, silk tulle, organza, Mikado, and silk georgette. These fabrics are chosen for their ability to carry heavy hand embroidery and beading. Embellishments include hand-sewn crystals, freshwater pearls, sequins, and lace appliques arranged in floral motifs, Baroque arabesques, and geometric patterns.
While the house is best known for heavily embellished designs, the bridal collection consistently includes cleaner, more restrained options. Recent collections have featured flowing A-line gowns in silk chiffon with minimal embellishment alongside architectural ball gowns. Brides with a preference for elegant simplicity at couture quality level will also find options.
